View Full Version : Diff banging.
I know 2way duffs tend to do this anyway buy mine has gotten considerably worse the last few days on full lock at slow speeds it bangs very loudly and throws the back of the car side to side. A mate of mine said it sounds the same as his did when his crown and pinion went, my diff knowledge is very limited so I'm not too sure what to do to fix it or make it less knocky? Any help appreciated.
possibly needs an oil change
I changed the oil about 2months ago, would it need one so soon again?
What oil did you use? Different oils have different viscosities. Mine was the same changed to silcolene diff oil and now its perfect
mine was exact same, got the proper oil and didn't make a diffenence, dunno the correct phrasing but where the shaft goes into the diff was moning about 3inches each way so got new diff alltogether!!

The only way you will really know whats going on inside the casing is to pull it apart and have a good look around to see can you figure out what the problem is.
Ken
It's was a cheap oil I put in I think.. I'll strip it apart tonight and have a look and change the oil and see if it makes any difference thanks lads
sounds like cheep oil maken the plates stick togeather,, cwp would knock in a straight line also
I noticed today it's abit knocky in a straight line too, could just be me being paranoid though, I'll take it apart tonight and see.
Took the diff apart and couldnt see anything abnormal looking, changed the oil for cheapo stuff again as i couldnt get my hands on anything else made no difference. Got some kaaz diff oil now but undecided if ill put it in or not as i dont think itll make a difference.

As i said man it's like as if the plates inside are stuck together and is acting as a welded diff now, so if anyone can shed light on this we'll try and sort it
try clead the diff down, cheack the front pinnion bearing then put good oil in it
I used redline diff oil in my cam... it made some difference!
Why replace it with cheap oil again??? If you checked it and it looks ok I think maybe that narrows it down to the wrong oil or a different problem. I tink you should get a good diff oil and try that before you try anything else and maybe waste unnecesary money

Every motor factor i went to had the same stuff and since it had been in the diff for 2months with no problems i presumed it had just gone shitty so thought it might need fresh stuff.
Have the kaaz oil now but going to try get someone who knows diffs well to strip it down for me anyone have any suggestions on who could do it?
