PICTURE HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my 97 JZX100 Chaser. I've had it since Sept 08, and have gone through a clutch, a rear tie rod, 2 bumpers, 30 back tyres, a trackday, a drift practice, diffing, a burn across England every Topaz in Ireland, and only 3 months tax. :D
I bought the car to ferry my son around in, but it's slowly getting away from that role, and is becoming just a car to have fun in, and to try and drift. Was in WGH recently and fell in love with track drifting. Nutts this week is a possibility.

The Spec....

1jzgte 2.5 Single turbo.
5 speed manual gearbox.
Apexi Power Fc and commander
Hpi induction kit
Hpi fmic with hard pipes.
Apexi Silent Hi-power cat back exhaust system

Full Vertex Kit with vented fiberglass front wings.
Wheels : Have had four different sets on the car, and still haven't decided on what I want on it.
Trd coilovers on the back.
Teins in front
Trd 320km dials
Trd leather gearknob, and fascia panels.
Uras crystal front indicators
Aftermarket l.e.d rear lights.

Cheers fellas. It's been through a tough time, and things aren't gonna get any better. lol Weighing up the pros and cons of bringing it to Nutts the weekend. The lack of wheels, money, and bodywork is holding me back, for some reason. :)

Greg

Anybody want to tell me how much my car is worth now? It's missing a front bumper, and needs a lil tidying.

Greg
04-08-09, 15:35
Right so : Update time again.

Went to WGH ages ago - Did this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuJvDXO_2a0

Then stuck the car in a ditch, and mashed the bumper, so took it off the road.

While it was off the road, I went to Tullow - Did this...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30oMAL476kI

After Tullow and all my spins and general shiteness, I realised that the drivers side TRD coilover was actually blown and was bouncier than a fat person on a trampoline, inside a bouncy castle, so that had to be changed. Luckily I had two Tein coilovers sitting in the press, so they were fitted one day when it wasn't raining. :)

Trd's in blue, and Teins in green. There's a fair size difference between the two, but the Teins seem to have more adjustability for height anyways. :)
http://i27.tinypic.com/15wyro9.jpg

I then adjusted the handbrake which was quite easily done.
http://i26.tinypic.com/mtvvie.jpg

Now that they are fitted, the car is actually nice to drive again and isn't trying to throw me into a ditch every time it hits a bump, and is nice and settled on the road. I'll bring it down to Tullow again soon and see if the shocks improve my driving, or if I am in fact really just shit. :D

Then we had the rolling road day. The car made 295bhp, and 306 ft/lbs which was good enough considering the car needs a service, and was boosting a little lower than normal.
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/ADC%20HQ%20RR%20Day/Greg1.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/ADC%20HQ%20RR%20Day/Greg2.jpg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhRCg6vFU9U

Then the time came to get the car back on the road, so I purchased a new bumper, attacked it with a jigsaw, and snips, and absolutely made a balls of fitting it. The main thing is that it's on the car, and I can tidy it up at some stage this week.
http://i31.tinypic.com/10dux50.jpg

Oh, and my turbo is now making that lovely death whistle, so it's time to try sell everything I have and get a bigger one instead. :)

good to see ahe is back on the road greg, you should have joined us up in nutts yesterday

Greg
06-08-09, 02:32
I would have, but money is tighter than a nuns chuff this weather.

Had the car out on my private test track tonight, and tried to have fun. There is shocking amounts of understeer happening, and i'm a bit rusty so lots of manfoot resulted in near spins. Must try harder or sort out my tyre pressures.

@ Bubba - I know man, it's a joke like. It's only the poxy rain and floods that are killing them though, so that's a good sign. :)

@ Ste - Now, now. Don't be calling lads bigger than you a pussy. Let the small man syndrome go for one day like. :)

Greg
12-08-09, 20:54
Gave the car 2 coats of polish, and two coats of wax over the last two days. It came up well. :)

Greg
12-08-09, 22:20
Unfortunately all it's doing is shining. It needs a drift day to stretch it's legs properly. Bypass runs don't count. :)

I can heartily recommend one. They are a good car. :D They also sound the tits when driven on. :)

Iv bought, sold, repaired, broke, drifted and trackdayed s13,rps13,s14 and s15 and everytime Im asked which one I always go for the 180sx(rps13).Just the weight destribution and handling I love plus no noisey rattly vvt(bent cam)sr20 like in 14/15.That said the 15 does handle nice also. . . .descisions descisions:D

Im sure you will find an s-chassis to suit you:p

Waxed it, took pictures...

Brought it to Mondello for the MNC trackday on Monday....

This is how the day went...

Up on a jack...
http://i25.tinypic.com/20b1fl4.jpg

Found a cracked brake disc.
http://i26.tinypic.com/24yvamx.jpg
Did four laps, made two tyres delaminate, and then drove home at the end of the day waiting for the hub to explode and to end up in a ditch. That didn't happen luckily enough.

A few more lifestyler pics....

Greg
17-11-09, 16:38
Nope. I just raised it up after I got sick of hearing the skirts cracking every time I tackled a speed bump and seeing how much of the front bumper had been shaved off in the space of a month. It looks gay now though and is annoying me.

I think thats about 25k's?? Id say less than that to be honest, best part of a fiver to go one way to work and i thought that was only bout 20k's. Nearly cheaper getting a taxi haha

Fuck knows, I put in a tank, or 60 quid and that will do me for work (blanchardstown - Airport approx and return X 5) and local driving. In the Stream ill get about 3 weeks out of a tank!!

regards petrol i think the 100 are great on it,and i hav a heavy foot like , i went from cork to mondello on about 20 to 30 euro and that was over 120km a hour a lot of the way ,my tezza turbo would hav went throug a lot more

Ya mine was mapped by Robbie to run on normal pump fuel. I can get from Arklow to Waterford and back, and around town a few times, for €20, if I take it handy. Like i've put €40 in the car since Sunday and i've been to Waterford, done some streeto and lots of overtaking, been down to Tramore, around Waterford city, back to Arklow, bombed around town a few times and there's still some of the €40 left in it.

The tyres I got don't hold air so the cheapness didn't pay off this time. Gay!!!!

Fuck!! :( I went from Dublin to Newry return (basically from the airport) and it was a good €50. But im getting more convinced i've a leaky injector so that mightn't help :D

Greg, how much for the map and did you need anything like a PFC?

Greg
18-11-09, 10:35
I got a PFC off Dave in Japanese Perfromance for €600, and the map was €580 including new plugs. Those prices are guestimations at this stage. :) Robbie looked afer me though when a setting was changed on the PFC and the car was running like a bag of shite. He took the car back and ran it for half a day on the dyno to sort it, and didn't charge me anoher cent. :)

The commander with the PFC is handy to have because I can get petrol in different garages and watch the Knock reading to see how good or bad it is, and now know where to get good petrol which helps with the MPG.

24-11-09, 23:05
Ya they are model specific alright. Maybe Dave in Japanese Performance could find you one???? I threw €50 petrol into the car Saturday and have done 200 hard driving miles and there's still a quarter tank left, so she's good enough on the go go juice. :)

Sort off. It didn't actually turn out all that bad considering it was sprayed at night in my yard, and had to be sprayed green, then black had to be lightly sprayed over it for it to match the car somewhat, and it looks ok from about 17 miles away. haha

Got some fwd spec 18's to have for spare drift wheels off Keli for Christmas and my birthday. Got all excited when I saw the wheels and then nearly did a little wee when I saw how much thread was left on the Federal 595's that were on two of the wheels. :D

Now one of the wheels had been hopped off a kerb at one point so that needs a good few slaps of a plastic mallet. They don't look that bad on the car though and I reckon if I got fairly man spec spacers they'd look pretty cool on it.

nah man, looks good, i sprayed my front bumper on a civic a had before, there's no better feeling than doin it yourself:)

Greg
14-12-09, 18:33
Ah I had to spray the bumper. It's way too noticeable and like a red rag to a bull with the cops. Especially after last weeks shenanigans with the feckers. My little man actually is delighted I sprayed the bumper, surprisingly enough. haha
I'll give the Volks a good clean up and refurb while they are off the car. I might even paint them.... what colour though? :)

Went to the beach today to walk the dogs and managed to crack the bumper off a bit of sand of all things. So that had to be stitched..

While I was doing that I got the missus to throw the 10j Volks on the front of the car to see how they looked...

I think they look ok on the front. They are 17x10 ET +31 with a 5mm spacer. With a bigger spacer and the car lowered again it would look amazing. I'm now having thoughts of finding a pair in 18x10 for the back though. Hmmm :D

Greg

Did some hard parking today with my mate's Supra(which is for sale). MY car is going into the bodyshop Monday and getting tarted up and sold on. Probably for 8k, maybe more. This is basically how it'll look when put up for sale... You'll just have to imagine the fixed bumper and it having 40mm spacers on the front and 5mm on the back. :D

Greg
24-04-10, 20:45

@ Dara - ANything is an improvement with those wheels. I got the grinder out and trimmed the arches so I can fit the spacers on the front. But I read somewhere that if the spacer can jiggle about before you tighten the nuts, then it's not safe??

Just a boring update with no pictures. Now that I have a job I can finally fix up the two years worth of hard driving wear and tear.

Doing the last Port Laoise day highlighted a few problems that need sorting out. These include too soft suspension, a need for a proper seat and hydro, and a need for a new subframe.

So far I've managed to purchase a subframe and Keli bought me a nice dished steering wheel for Christmas. Im waiting on word about a seat and harness, and stiffer coilovers. Once I get those bought and fitted it will be back to attending practice days and having fun.

Im not overly bothered with fixing up the bodykit because it's only going to get smashed up again. Although I will definitely be getting a decent set of wheels to sort of make the car look a bit better.

Thats it. Being stuck at home with the snow lead to boredom and this update. :D

Ste, They look good on the back alright but I'm gonna try go for mad dish and flared arches. It's an over done look, but I reckon it'll suit the car. Takes the eyes away from the tatty bodykit. I'd go the flat black way you're going if the car was black. :)

Right, so I think I might have gotten a bit of a billy bargain with the wheels, because they are Lowenhart and quite rare and expensive in Japan. Which is a good and bad thing, because it now means getting two more in good sizes is going to work out rather expensive. Back to the drawing board or something.

Could be a plan. Well, after I get a hydro and the new subframe in I'll look into getting them powder coated. Unless Plasti-kote do a gold spray???

Just got word that the replacement rear subframe has been picked up in England and will be here Wednesday, so get that fitted and the car will be a minter mechanically once again.

The bushes look fresh, and best of all it's straight and ready to be welded up for added strength. Locking collars are being looked for, and there's a heap of different braces and shit available in Japan, so my keep at the overtime in work and then the car will eventually be a lot more tight and drifty. :D

Greg
16-02-11, 22:59
Ordered a KTS arb for the front and locking collars for the subframe about an hour ago, hopefully they arrive in time for the competition. It's looking like I won't have a hydro for the comp because I need to keep money to fix up what the car fails the Nct on, and the test is next week.

Will having a different colour bumper fail the Nct??

Earlier tonight, I brought the car for it's first hard drive since I got the wheels, seat, exhaust fitted, and removed the rear seats, which highlighted a couple of issues that will have to be sorted before Port Laoise in two weeks.

The passenger side rear wheel is scrubbing on the inside of the arch during hard cornering and the exhaust is hitting the ground when the car is squatting under full throttle. You can hear the exhaust hopping off the ground when I do a manji near the end of this video..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7otmn2k7ag

So, my options are either raise the car or get stiffer shocks. Fuck raising it! :)

If you have coilovers maybe your spring preload is too low. Sounds sweet!

Greg
20-02-11, 15:38
There's not really any space, but Gem is having a look at it Wednesday and seeing what he can do.

The coilovers are as low as they can go which won't be helping, plus they are pretty soft and only fit for hard parking. And...... the collars have seized on them so I can't raise it back up. Carpo has a set of Cusco's there, but I'm broke as fuck this week, and next week, and the week after, so I can't buy them.

Greg
01-03-11, 22:00
Quick update before I hit the sack...

Gem sorted out the coilovers and raised the car which sorted out the exhaust hitting the ground, he also put the cat in for the NCT which the car promptly failed. :D It only failed on a couple of minor things though which should be sorted soon.

What else... Got a bumper, sprayed and fitted it in my front yard, it turned out ok and will do until after Port Laoise.

Picked up a sliding rail off Copeyhagen, as well as Ganador mirrors and seventy billion wheel nuts. Cheers Rob. :)

Then this evening the KTS arb and locking collars arrived, but they may stay in the box because I don't have any time to get them fitted before Port Laoise. Thanks to Tom from Titan for sorting me out with those quickly and cheaply. :)

Anyhow, pictures...

Definitely not minted anyway. :) The only bits of the car that aren't mint are the side skirts, front arches and back bumper, and the dirt on it. :D

Anyhow, I'm not a fan of posing and parking, but if that's what a person is into, then fair play. What's the point in having a big power rwd car and not using it? I like drifting, the car has been drifted on every track in the Republic(are Punchestown and Citywest classed as tracks because it hasn't been on them), drifting is hard on cars, cars can be fixed, life goes on.

Cheers Niall. It's not going to be just a track car though, it'll have NCT, a tax disc(out of date), and be used for commuting to work.

Right so....... PortLaoise Weekender Update.. Bit of a long moany one.

Saturday Practice...

Sataurday went pretty well. Went out for the first session with the 18x9.5's on and once I found out that the handbrake actually worked I was getting some pretty good runs in with what felt like pretty awesome flicked entries. :) It was first time ever drifting using a handbrake and it was amazing. It made it possible to drive the car so much harder and throw it around like a good 'un. Also the KTS ARB and locking collars were worth their weight in gold, making the car was a pleasure to throw about.

Went out for the second session with the 18x7.5's on running 50psi and had no grip whatsoever for the first few runs which resulted in lots of spins. So I let out a heap of air and got some good runs in against Geordie and Newsome. Geordies car sounds amazing chasing you down and actually made me drive like a demon. :)
Managed to headbutt a cone with the car and break the new bumper which was kind of upsetting but shit happens as they say.
Then came the third session where I put the 18x9.5's on and had some pretty bad runs where the car was bogging down and generally not wanting to drive. On one lap it took six clutch kicks to get it around the course so I decided to call it a day and head back to the hotel for some beers and dinner.

Sunday Practice and Competition...

Woke up Sunday feeling pretty confident that I'd do well enough to do myself proud so set off to the track with a whopper hangover and a belly full of dodgy hotel breakfast.

Got to the track and was driving the car up onto the ramps to change the wheels when myself and Derek noticed the car making a strange noise which was worrying. Derek did a bit of investigating and found a €2 size hole in one of the intercooler pipes.
So after a bit of running around, suggestions from people, and help from Derek, Kav, Japman, and Gem we got the hole covered and the car was rearing to go. As it turns out I reckon I've been running with a boost leak for the best part of a year and the car is a different animal altogether. :D

Anyhow went out for a practice run, flat out up to the first turn, gave the car a flick and yanked the handbrake and....... nothing happened. The handbrake decided it didn't want to work anymore. :( So spent the practice farting about trying shit and getting nowhere.
Then on the last run the handbrake decided to work again so I thought happy days for the comp. :)

Made it into the amateurs for the comp(unsurprisingly), lined up for the start and then did the runs which were terrible. The handbrake stopped working again and I generally drove the car like I stole it, spun in both runs, and nearly drove straight out the gate to go home. Only for I had to bring Keli home I wouldn't have stopped.

So, Saturday was cool, the session was cool, and Sunday was a nightmare. :( Ordering a hydro on Thursday so once that is in I'll rule the world. :D

I'd just like to say a big thanks to Bart and the PortLaoise crew for a whopper weekend, bigger thanks to the Wicklow crew for the banter, advice, and helping hands, and an even bigger than that thanks to Gem and Diff06 for fitting bits to the car and not charging me an arm and a leg.
