Hey All

I know its still 2010 but ive decided to start my 2011 Build now as if i wait too long il get nothing done. Lots of plans for next year, with reliability always being an issue i want to get her running 110%. Ive decided im going to go down the Holset route for next year, nothing wrong with Garrett Turbos but i just dont trust them anymore so time for a change. The wiring in the car has always been a nightmare so every bit of it is getting ripped out and i hope to have everything running and working with a few simple wires, a job for Pt_y2k :D

I got a free aluminium tank recently so going to fit that to the boot and clean things up a little back there. On the cosmetic side of things i have big plans, from new paint, wheels and other nice bits, Going for a pimp theme for next year. Thats it for now, i hope to get a full years PD next year so will spend the winter getting her ready to go. Thats all for now, cheers for looking.

Replace all glass "except windscreen" with polycarbonate, cut excess material off doors + boot lid . No need to go too mad ,a few simple things should see you loose a few kgs.

Very best of luck with this man, I think it will be good to finally lose the orange. Maybe the radical change will turn around the fortunes for ye.

1 thing. If you go black with Dish which IMO will look fucking wild you have to get some cheesy curtains for the rear windows, proper VIP style! No weight and probably easy to just stitch up. That would look

Lightening a car like this will make a huge difference?

Can you get cheap fiberglass doors, bonnet and bootlid for the Chasers?
When John's swapped them all for fiberglass and removed the other bits and pieces and did the boot-floor on the M3 the difference was like night and day.

Don't know why people are all going for Holset turbos other than the fact they are cheap... If I wanted ultra reliabilty, I'm sure there is better out there but costs more too I suppose.

The repeat failure of other turbos so far can't be all the turbos fault so I'd make sure everything else is perfect when your at it.

Black will be nice again too once you do some good graphics to make it stand out. Be good to get away from the feeling its a driftworks car and making it your own too.

You going to cage the touring over the winter too so you'll have a spare reliable car when....I mean if.... this goes bang:p

Thanks for your input lad, being honest the only way il be doing PD next year is if i spend fuck all on the car. So new panels are out of the question as nice as they would be. As for Holsets, the way i see it is they are built for lorries, so need to be seriously reliable. They are cheap, and the rebuild kit for one is 30stg. Compared to Garretts €900. The sweds etc seem to run them on everything from Fords to Bmw's etc and have had some great figures etc. So thats why im gonna go down that line. The failures have been figured out, all different things.

As for the bm, il see how she goes over the winter :D

Thanks everyone for the comments, i shud have the tank in and plumbed tomorrow so il get up pics ;)

Is the one your getting made for a truch???
trucks only rev 2500rpm so the turbo doesn't really reach speeds as high in a big petrol engine either as well as the turbo comes on and off boost far less in a truck like you would when drifting so fatigue failure is lower so don't need ball bearings etc.

Still, they still seem to work well somehow and of course the cheapness of them is a great advantage.
I know they work very well in BMWs... There was an S50ed E30 with a Holset in TotalBMW a few weeks ago with 630bhp or something like that.
I think I'd use a S366 or something though with a clever manifold:D

Even if your not able to get panels, there's still great scope for lightening anyway as there still seems to be alot of bits still left inside the car behind the dash etc :)

Exaxtly what i was thinking, but im wondering do i keep my heater rad/boxes etc to pull heat from the engine.

Do many other drifters still run the heaters in their cars??

I'd dump the lot if i were you cos there looks to be alot of that!! An even if you wanted to be fussy and keep a heater you could fit a smaller tidier heater box from something else lad :)

Well not being fussy lad, just wondering would the heater be more of a benefit to keep the car cooler as 1j's so like the hotter side of life. Or am i better off just ripping it all out? ;)

The problem with the Holsets are the compressor turbines. they designed for diesels that dont rev high so flow for high rpm petrol engines is poor

thankfully Holset have recognised that their turbos are being used more and more in the tuner market and are releasing a "super" version of their turbos with different compressor turbines. they will be a little more expensive but i would def hold off if you havent bought one already

we will have theses available when launched

Nicky doesnt run a heater in his car and RB's like heat too...Dont think a heater makes that much of a difference to cooling.. Only reason why i'd keep it is for wet/cold days....so my heater is stayin :D

But that does look like a big awkward set up in the chaser lad.. Oh and cut the fuck outta them doors

I've see the water temp going down alot faster when you turn on on the heater to full.
I got rid of most of the ducting ,just keep the 1 for the windscreen .

DaveM-sport

Rip it all out and just make sure your rad is more than capable.

For the windscreen, you can get small little lightweight heaters or if you wanted to go mad, get s heated windscreen :D

I dont know, any suggestions? I want dish, i also want a flat face.........if u catch my drift ;)

Bit of an Update, got a small bit done during the week, its hard to get things done as my "shed" is an open yard. Got the new floor in, just a sheet of alliminium. Also got rid of the horrible sound deadening in the boot, thanks the Anto for his screwdriver skills. Next on the list is mounting my pumps and filters etc, take the rest of the cage out and strip all the heating boxes etc out...then hopefully its off to Paul for wiring :D

Shes a bit tidier there now chuck...! Would you not concider sinking the tank....! The reason i sunk mine was to keep as much wight as low to the ground as possiable.....! Full tank of fuels heavy lad....!

Not telling ya what to do lad its just an option...!

If i was to sink her there wud be alot of butchering to be done........only reason im going with a tank as big is cause it was free.....i wont be filling it, just topping it up after each run.....:)
